Day 5 - Community Day
Today was a rest day for the pilots so not many scientists were out collecting samples today. We had organised to go down to the river camp and have a BBQ lunch with the Traditional Owners and have a relaxing day back at camp.
After lunch we played a huge game of Markers up with the kids and some of the scientists and teachers. It was heaps of fun! There are definitely a few little AFL players in the making up here.
When the footy action died down, some of the kids went down with Michael and Glen to try and catch some fish. I hung around and had a long chat with Jean who is one of the Traditional Owners. She told me lots of great stories about her family and she passed on some interesting information about the different trees in the area. She told me that you can eat the fruit of the boab, and also crack the seeds and eat the inside of the boab seed. I had a chance to eat some later in the day and the boab flesh tastes like dried apple and the flesh inside the seed tastes like macadamia!
All in all we had a great rest day that was definitely needed!
